CHED ROI, in partnership with DOT Region I, conducted the Regional Vetting for the Tourism Start-Up Challenge (TSC) at the CHED Regional Office I, City of San Fernando, La Union on February 11, 2026.
The initiative aims to encourage Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to develop tourism-related start-up ideas that contribute to national and local development, in line with the Joint Administrative Order of CHED, DOT, and the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA).
Which entry will stand out in showcasing sustainable, innovative, and inclusive tourism concepts and earn a spot in the National Vetting?

In celebration of Safer Internet Day 2026, the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office I (CHED RO1) joins the global community in promoting a secure, respectful, and better digital world for all students and educators.
In line with Proclamation No. 417, s. 2018, which declares the second Tuesday of February of every year as “Safer Internet Day Philippines,” CHED RO1 encourages the academic community to “Move on the Internet Safely” by practicing digital responsibility, protecting personal information, and fostering a culture of kindness and critical thinking in the online space.
CHED RO1 also highlights the importance of protecting the youth against Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and the spread of Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Materials (CSAEM).

Dr. Cherrie Melanie Ancheta-Diego, CESO III, Director IV, and Dr. Al Gerald Barde, Education Supervisor II and Focal Person for Internationalization, join the CHED Central Office and Regional Office directors and delegates during the third day of the Capacity Building on Liaison, Protocol, and Conference Management at the CHED Central Office, Quezon City, on February 6, 2026.
The day features a session on ASEAN Recent Developments in Higher Education, with Dr. Roger Chao Jr., Head of Education for Youth and Sports at the ASEAN Secretariat, as the resource speaker.
The rest of the program will focus on Filipino Brand of Service Excellence (FBSE) training, to be facilitated by Ms. Susan Edilo of the Department of Tourism.
The sessions aim to highlight the gold standard of Filipino welcome in international and ASEAN settings, application of Filipino core values in official hosting, and service delivery standards for ASEAN Chairpersonshipโ€“related activities.

Dr. Cherrie Melanie Ancheta-Diego, CESO III, Director IV, and Dr. Al Gerald Barde, Education Supervisor II and Focal for Internationalization, attend the second day of the Capacity Building on Liaison, Protocol, and Conference Management Program at the CHED Central Office, Quezon City, on February 5, 2026.
Dr. Maria Criselda G. Badilla , faculty member of the Asian Institute of Tourism of the University of the Philippines Diliman, facilitates the activity that aims to strengthen the capacity of CHED personnel in hosting ASEAN and other international events.
The session focuses on planning and implementing ASEAN-related meetings, covering key concepts in conference and events management, core competencies for international hosting, and a practical workshop on event coordination and execution.
