CHEDRO1 spearheads benchmarking activity at MAAP

CHED RO1 officials and representatives from PIMSAT Colleges, Northern Philippines College for Maritime Science and Technology (NPCMST), and Polytechnic College of La Union (PCLU) visited the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP) for a Learning Exchange Visit in Mariveles, Bataan on November 29, 2024.
The said activity was a continuation of the project, Maritime Advancement through Training and Collaboration Assembly (ATRACA), that served as a platform to focus on rebuilding a better and more sustainable maritime education and training (MET) by cultivating opportunities for maritime programs through Academic Stewardship and Sustainability which is to visit a reputable Maritime Higher Education Institution (MHEI) for a Learning Exchange Activity.
VADM Eduardo Ma R. Santos received the Region 1 attendees through the Academy’s traditional “sideboys” and discussed the MAAP’s history, programs, and best practices for MET.
Engr. Felix Oca, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Capt. Gerlo Elchico, Vice President for Administration, and Dr. Leogenes Lee, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs also graced the activity by sharing their experiences and plans for MET.
The MAAP Administration also toured the attendees to the Academy’s Maritime Laboratories and Facilities, funded and donated by the Associated Marine Officers’ and Seamen’s Union of the Philippines (AMOSUP), Japanese Seamen’s Union (JSU) and their partner Seafaring Unions.
Dr. Danilo Bose, CHED ROI Chief Education Program Specialist, thanked MAAP for accommodating CHED RO1 and the participating MHEIs at the said benchmarking activity.
Representatives from NPCMST, PIMSAT, and PCLU attended the said visit to share and learn from the Academy’s experiences in delivering quality Maritime Education.
