CHED RO1 joins GAD training, planning

The Commission on Higher Education Regional Office I (CHED ROI) is participating in the Gender and Development (GAD) Agenda Training and Formulation of the CHED GAD Agenda 2026โ€“2031 at The Lake Hotel, Tagaytay City, which commenced on August 26, 2025.
The activity also features the GAD Focal Point System (GFPS) Reorientation on the Core GAD Messages to further strengthen the implementation of gender mainstreaming in higher education.
During the opening ceremony, Director Edna Imelda Fernandez-Legaspi of CHED MIMAROPA and Chairperson of the CHED GAD Focal Committee delivered the welcome message, setting the tone for the training and planning sessions.
Dr. Christine Nabor-Ferrer, Director IV of CHED Region 1 and Vice Chairperson of GAD Focal committee, also shared her message of support.
Ms. Jocelyn Beltran-Balanag, a certified Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) GAD Resource Pool member, and Dr. Jhamie Tetz I. Mateo, Director of the Gender Research Resource Center at ISU Echague will serve as the resource speakers until August 29, 2025.
Accompanying Dr. Ferrer is Ms. Dianne Joyce Montemayor, a member of CHED ROI GFPS.
The training reinforces CHEDโ€™s commitment to gender equality and inclusive education across higher education institutions.

Ubando, to ensure the liquidation of downloaded funds in line with UAQTE guidelines on proper fund utilization and timely reporting.

CHED-MARINA Team visits PIMSAT College’ Maritime Programs

The monitoring team of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) jointly conducted a visit to PIMSAT Colleges in Dagupan City, Pangasinan, from August 12 to 15, 2025.
The visit’s purpose was to ensure compliance with the policies, standards, and guidelines governing maritime education, specifically the institution’s BS Marine Transportation and BS Marine Engineering programs, pursuant to Joint CHED-MARINA Memorandum Circular (JCMMC) No. 1, series of 2023, as amended.
C/E Jonathan A. Seguritan, Capt. Samie Lou L. Sedurante, Ms. Nona W. Marquez, Ms. Antoineta C. Alcover, and Dr. Myrelle Faith Mina composed the CHED-MARINA Monitoring Team.
The results of the evaluation were discussed with the officials of PIMSAT.

CHED RO1 attends training on New Government Procurement Act

To further strengthen government procurement processes, CHED Regional Office I personnelโ€”Mrs. Nympha N. Buenio (BAC Chair), Ms. Evelyn C. Adquilen (BAC Member), Ms. Ma. Andrea Quitalig (BAC Secretariat), and Ms. Janelle Ann D. Petacio (TWG)โ€”participated in the Training on the New Government Procurement Act (RA 12009) and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) at Seda Vertis North Hotel, Quezon City on August 18โ€“20, 2025.
The three-day activity was organized by the Government Procurement Policy Board (GPPB) and CHED Central Office which introduced the key provisions and reforms under RA 12009 and its IRR.
Resource speakers shared insights on strategic procurement planning, modernized procurement processes, PhilGEPS features, new modes of procurement, and enhanced evaluation criteria to ensure efficiency, value for money, and transparency in government transactions.
Participants also learned about the PhilGEPS platform and its upgraded functions, such as the electronic bulletin board, virtual store, e-marketplace, and electronic bidding.
Further, emphasis was given on mandatory market scoping, video recording, and livestreaming of procurement activities, as well as the expanded use of PhilGEPS for procuring common-use supplies and equipment, airline tickets, and vehicles.

UNP partners with CHED RO1, DMMMSU for 8th Regional Research Congress

The University of Northern Philippines (UNP), in partnership with CHED Regional Office I and Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU), hosted the 8th Regional Research Congress last August 14-15 at the UNP Tadena Hall, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.
Dir. Rosario Segundina P. Gaerlan, Regional Director of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Regional Office 1, served as the keynote speaker of the two-day research congress.
Anchored on the theme โ€œConnected Minds, Collective Impact: Advancing Knowledge and Innovation for a Sustainable Futureโ€, the congress brought together researchers and innovators form different disciplines who shared their outputs.
More than 180 research papers were presented in parallel sessions along six clusters, Administration and Supervision, Teaching and Learning, Social Science, Health, Environment and Natural Product Development, and Business, Technology and Industry.
Engr. Leonora F. Quarte, Education Supervisor II of CHED ROI, served as evaluator of the research papers along Administration and Supervision, as well as in the selection of the Best Paper in all the categories.
The University of Research and Development Office (URDO) of UNP, under the guidance Dr. Edelyn Cadorna, spearheaded the said research congress.
