The activity aimed to strengthen the capacity of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Region I to align their curricula with global standards and competencies, reinforcing the region’s commitment to globally responsive teacher education.
In her welcome message and program overview, Dr. Christine Nabor-Ferrer, CHED ROI Director IV, emphasized the importance of global readiness in higher education and commended the participants’ dedication.
β€œInternationalization is not just a policy directionβ€”it is a mindset, a calling, and a movement toward inclusive, quality, and globally responsive education.”
The capacity-building program, the first phase of a three-phase initiative, laid the foundationβ€”exploring frameworks and analyzing models to map global and intercultural competencies within teacher education curricula.
The second phase will center on mentoring and research, while the third phase will culminate in institutional action planning to translate insights into sustained, system-wide strategies for Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) across Region I.
Key sessions featured experts including Dr. Dary Dacanay on good practices in curriculum internationalization; Dr. Kim Jiyoon of Seoul, South Korea, who presented via video presentation, on Global Citizenship Education; Dr. Stephenie O. Busbus of Saint Louis University on curriculum frameworks; Dr. Mee Jay Domingo of Mariano Marcos State University on strategies for internationalization; Dr. Ryan Jayson Delos Reyes of Urdaneta City University on integrating global competencies and AI; Dr. Cristeta Dulos of PSU on curriculum mapping; and Dr. Mitchellene Rivo on action planning.
Participants worked on tools such as the Curriculum Internationalization Matrix, Syllabus Analysis Worksheet, and Action Planning Template, which will guide their respective institutions in embedding global perspectives into their programs.
The program concluded with the awarding of certificates and a closing message delivered by Dr. Danilo B. Bose, Chief Education Program Specialist of CHED RO I, who encouraged the participants to transform their learnings into concrete institutional actions.
Participating institutions included Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University–South La Union Campus, Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College, Lyceum-Northwestern University, PSU–Bayambang Campus, Saint Louis College, Mariano Marcos State University, Panpacific University, University of Eastern Pangasinan, and Urdaneta City University.
Through this collaborative effort, CHED ROI and PSU GCED Regional center affirmed their shared commitment to empowering educators, internationalizing teacher education curricula, and shaping globally competent Filipino teachersβ€”educators who are globally attuned yet locally responsive to the needs of an interconnected world.
