CHEDRO1 collabs with DDB for Training on Life Skills Enhancement for Drug Abuse Prevention Education

In its third year of collaboration, the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office I (CHEDROI) once again teamed up with the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) to conduct the Training of Trainers on Life Skills Enhancement for Drug Abuse Prevention Education at Tadena Hall, University of Northern Philippines, Vigan City, on October 22-23, 2024.
The training brought together 43 student leaders from various higher education institutions in Region 1.
Dr. Christine N. Ferrer, Director IV of CHEDROI, commended the positive response of the participating HEIs to the invitation for the training. She also expressed her appreciation to the student leaders for their attendance, as it demonstrated their shared advocacy for drug abuse prevention. Dr. Ferrer concluded her message with words of gratitude to the DDB Training Team for their continued support in conducting the training.
Ms. Teresita Pineda, Chief of the Preventive Education, Training and Information Division (PETID) of the DDB, led the technical session, providing an overview of the training course along with workshops on facilitation and assertion skills.
Furthermore, Ms. Edna Villavicencio, Training Specialist III, facilitated workshops on building self-esteem and decision-making skills; Mr. Kenneth Prado, Health Education and Promotion Officer II, led the workshops on communication and personal skills; and Pastor Ryan Daliva conducted the workshop on spiritual life skills.
The two-day training consisted of workshops covering different training modules, allowing students to work in groups, interact, and share their experiences. Participants were also given copies of the Training Handbook, which they can use to conduct similar training sessions in their respective institutions.
Dr. Myrelle Faith Mina, Education Supervisor II and focal point of the activity, challenged the student leaders during the closing session to create training plans and implement similar activities in their institutions.
Joining Dr. Mina in the CHEDROI Training Team are fellow Education Supervisors: Dr. Maria Carmela Domocmat, Mr. Albert Subang, and Engr. Leonora Quarte. CHEDROI is set to conduct the same training workshop for private higher education institutions next year.
